Our Process

In the world of pottery, where clay meets creativity, we embark on a daily transformative journey. With skilled hands and artistic hearts, we mould raw earth into vessels of beauty and purpose.

Our wondrous world of pottery creation

We start with gathering the necessary materials and tools, including clay, setting up our potter’s wheel, and our various sculpting and carving instruments.

We ensure that our workspace is clean and organized before starting. Next, we prepare the clay by wedging and kneading it to remove air bubbles and ensure its consistency. This step is crucial for a smooth and even working surface.

Our pottery process
Once the clay is ready, we take a portion and centre it on the potter’s wheel. With gentle pressure, we shape the clay into a symmetrical form, gradually shaping and moulding it with our hands. We pay attention to the piece’s texture, thickness, and overall design.

As the wheel spins, we continue to refine the shape, using our fingers, palms, and various tools to create desired contours, curves, and details. It’s a process of constant observation and adjustment to achieve the desired aesthetic.

After we’re satisfied with the basic shape, we let the piece dry partially. This stage is called “leather-hard,” where the clay is firm enough to handle but still malleable. We can now add additional decorative elements, such as handles, textures, or carving intricate patterns, into the surface.

Once we finish adding the desired embellishments, we let the pottery piece dry completely. Depending on size and thickness, this can take several days to weeks. It’s important to ensure the piece dries evenly to avoid cracking or warping.

Our pottery process

When the piece is fully dry, we proceed to bisque firing. This initial firing removes any remaining moisture from the clay, making it more durable.

We carefully load the pottery into the kiln, following proper temperature and firing schedules.

After the bisque firing, we allow the pottery to cool before applying glazes. Glazes add colour, texture, and a protective coating to the piece. Using brushes or dipping techniques, we carefully apply glazes to achieve the desired effect.

Finally, we load the glazed pottery into the kiln for the final firing. The high temperature of the kiln melts the glazes, creating a beautiful and permanent finish. Once the kiln cools down, we can proudly unveil our finished pottery creation, ready to be admired and enjoyed.

Throughout the entire process, we exercise patience, creativity, and craftsmanship to bring our pottery ideas to life. Each piece is a unique expression of our passion for working with clay and our dedication to the art of pottery.
